Hi, I'm James! I'm a Motion Designer, Video Editor, and proud resident of West-Michigan.
I've been creating videos for over a decade. I have worked in-house with agencies, and individually with companies all over Michigan and beyond. In 2026, I began freelancing full-time.
I've worked on everything from commercial to non-profit, documentary, podcast, social media, web animation, and concert videos. In the audio realm, I've even dabbled with sonic branding, music production, and live sound.
I believe having great visuals should be paired with equally capable sound. As an animator / editor, I'm always thinking about rhythm & balance, and how that pairs holistically with audio. After all, "sound is 50% of the movie-going experience" — George Lucas

FAQs
What software do you use?
I am most often working in DaVinci Resolve & After Effects.
Do you work remotely?
I usually do my best creative work where I can isolate myself from distractions, but I also love being in-person for meetings / project communication when geography allows!
Will you design as well as animate?
I am many things, but for most projects I prefer not to pretend to be a graphic designer. I have a network of designers I can lean on or could also work with a designer from your end. I have a lot of respect for the time and discipline it takes to learn design. Much of my best mo-graph work was keyframed by others.
Can I have your project files?
As far as I'm concerned, if you hire me to work on a creative project, you own the project files as well as the deliverable. I am happy to provide all working files upon completion of a project, by request. (Although, letting me know this in advance will help me set things up in a way to maximize compatibility.)
Do you think organization is important for project workflow?
What a great leading-question, of course! Keeping assets & project files organized in a strictly managed folder structure is critical for iterating changes or new deliverables.
What are some of your personal interests?
I infrequently make casual little vlog videos of vacations or events with my family and friends. Even more infrequently, music. This is an album I made when I was in college, it's... okay.
Okay but what about non-A/V personal interests?
I'm fascinated by electric vehicles and the emerging infrastructure. I couldn't tell you much about automotive as a whole, but something about EVs really do it for me. I actually drive a Polestar 4, which are pretty uncommon here in the US.
